The TollBridge Difference

TollBridge enables Multi-Service Operators (MSOs) and Local Exchange Carriers (LECs) world-wide to offer packet-based voice over broadband services. What makes the TollBridge approach better than most of its competitors is that it uses an IP-based architecture that offers the following benefits:

  • Enables deployment of low-cost VoIP customer premises equipment immediately with no forklift upgrades in the future
  • Migrates easily from a local exchange gateway to a full media gateway with simple software upgrades
  • Works in both the Class 5 environment and in the softswitch/CMS environment today
  • Same architecture for DSL, Cable and wireless media
  • Supports both GR-303 (North America switches) and V5.2 (international switches) equally

While almost every competitive solution utilizes proprietary non-IP based trunking protocols that require expensive CPE equipment and limit compatibility with next-generation switching systems, TollBridge customers enjoy the benefits of VoIP today. Why wait for the future? Deploy TollBridge today.

TollBridge Architecture

Chambre Porto HotelBy using standard VoIP protocols the TB200 and TB300 allows a provider to deploy VoIP and the access network today while enjoying the robustness and rich feature set of the Class 5 switch. Because VoIP is used as the basic protocol, softswitches can be added into the network as soon as the provider is ready and the TB200/300 can direct calls to the PSTN under softswitch control.

Circuit-switched voice traffic coming from the Class 5 switch is packetized and sent to a Media Terminal Adapter (MTA) or Integrated Access Device (IAD) located at the customer premises. These devices are also often referred to residential "gateways". The TollBridge gateway transparently delivers all Class 5 services to end users. Going the other way, the MTA / IAD translates samples from multiple voice-lines into packets that are sent through the broadband network. The TollBridge gateway translates the packetized voice data back into circuit switched voice traffic for delivery to the Class 5 switch using a GR-303 or V5.2 interface. The TollBridge architecture delivers toll-quality multiline voice that is indistinguishable from circuit-switched voice.
