TOLLBRIDGE TECHNOLOGIES DEMONSTRATES VOICE OVER CABLE AT EASTERN CABLE SHOW Tollbridge Voice Over Broadband Solution Becomes Reality<SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 14, 2000 - TollBridge Technologies, the leading developer of high-quality voice-over-broadband solutions for a new generation of carriers, announced today that it will debut its voice-over-cable solution at the Eastern Cable Show in Atlanta, March 14 - 15. This introduction represents the next major evolution in TollBridge's Voice over Broadband strategy. The TollBridge TB200 Voice Gateway will be the centerpiece of a deployable, scalable, carrier-grade voice-over-packet cable demonstration, showcasing the advantages of its superior voice quality and services for cable. Visitors to the show will be able to participate in and experience cable IP telephony for the first time. TollBridge will also be demonstrating IP voice over Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) at the show to demonstrate the power of the platform in delivering voice over any broadband. "Voice-over-cable solutions provide Multiple System Operators (MSO) the opportunity to introduce highly profitable voice services over standard cable modems to both business and residential customers," said Agnes Imregh, vice president marketing, TollBridge Technologies. "By offering a full range of converged digital entertainment, data, and voice services, cable MSO's gain a competitive advantage as the focal point for the converged network of the 21st century." Visitors to the TollBridge booth will be able to initiate phone calls on a Broadcom Multimedia Terminal Adapter, (MTA) or a TollBridge TB50 Integrated Access Device (IAD). The Broadcom MTA and TB50 will packetize the calls for transport over a Data over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) to the TollBridge TB200. The TB200 will interface to a switch via a GR-303 interface for connectivity to the outside world or to another line on the Hybrid-Fiber-Coax (HFC) or DSL network being demonstrated at the show. "Our solution allows MSOs to leverage their existing infrastructure to deliver integrated voice and data services," said Gregory Hutterer, director of cable product marketing, TollBridge Technologies. "The TollBridge Cable IP Platform enables MSOs to utilize their existing high-speed data networks to support packet telephony instead of deploying standalone HFC telephony equipment. Because separate voice and data networks don't have to be deployed, operators save operational and capital costs while shortening the time to market." York accommodationThe platform also lowers deployment costs by using shared rather than dedicated network resources. Bandwidth is used for voice only when required, and voice is prioritized over data using the Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms available with DOCSIS 1.1 deployment. TollBridge cable IP telephony can also utilize voice compression algorithms to further minimize bandwidth utilization while providing toll-quality voice service. The TollBridge TB200 Gateway provides MSOs the ability to connect thousands of phones over the broadband cable to the Class 5 switch yet still delivers transparently all familiar class and custom calling features. About Voice of Broadband Alliance TollBridge has spearheaded the alliance program to accelerate large-scale deployments by next-generation carriers: Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLEC's), Inter Exchange Carriers (IXC's), Internet Service Providers (ISPs), MSOs, and cable operators. Alliance partners include the leading providers of DSL, cable and wireless access equipment, Integrated Access Devices (IADs), Integrated Communications Platforms (ICPs), semiconductor solutions, and next-generation switching and services software platforms. To encourage this interoperability effort, TollBridge has launched three groundbreaking initiatives: - Open Source Code Licensing for IAD Design
TollBridge is making available a GNU GPL (General Public License) version of its DSL Forum-compliant IAD protocol. The code will be available from the TollBridge Website to facilitate rapid partner development and break down barriers to interoperability. - Interoperability Lab
luxuriose Suiten Eger At its headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif., TollBridge is hosting an interoperability lab specifically for Voice of Broadband Alliance partners to ensure product interoperability. Products passing all tests receive Powered by TollBridge certification and use of the associated logo for display in marketing materials. - Joint Standards Promotion
TollBridge is committed to an open standards environment for voice-over-broadband equipment providers. TollBridge is investing resources to jointly fund standards promotion and interoperability activities as well as providing partners with promotional space and equipment at industry events.
