VOICE-OVER-DSL INTEGRATED ACCESS DEVICE FOR THE SMALL OFFICE UNVEILED BY RAMP NETWORKS
Ramp Expands Broadband Product Line to Include VoDSL Internet Access Device

SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 5, 2000 - Ramp Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: RAMP), a leading provider of Internet access devices for the small office, today announced the WebRamp 2000V, its first Voice over DSL (VoDSL) integrated access device (IAD) specifically designed for the small office. The product is designed to be fully compliant with voice gateways from TollBridge, CopperCom and JetStream, and enables service providers to deliver high speed data and multiple phone lines on a single DSL circuit. With the WebRamp 2000V and DSL service, small businesses can significantly reduce the cost of voice and data service delivery relative to traditional access methods.

"The bundling of voice, data and Internet access services is emerging as a huge revenue opportunity for carriers because of the promise of significant monthly data and phone savings for the small office," said Matt Davis, Senior Analyst at the Yankee Group, a leading market analyst firm. "The Yankee Group estimates that VoDSL revenues from businesses will reach $1.6 billion in 2003, with the majority of these revenues coming from small businesses with 8-24 voice lines. The WebRamp 2000V IAD resides at subscriber premises, connects to SDSL service and supports 8 to 16 standard analog POTS phone lines. With a built-in 10/100 Ethernet interface, the product also gives all of the computers in a small office access to the Internet and Internet-based applications via a high-speed, always on connection.

Ramp has designed the VoDSL product line for performance, expandability and ease of installation. It features a powerful Hitachi processor and supports 2.3Mbps SDSL Compatible with DSLAM partners such as Copper Mountain. The WebRamp 2000V has eight POTS ports and is ideal for a small office. The WebRamp 2000EX is a stackable voice extender which has 8 ports, bringing the total to 16 ports.

The WebRamp 2000V and voice extender can be rack mounted, wall mounted or placed on a desktop. Continuing the Ramp tradition of ease of use, the unit features a unique cable management system to keep the input wiring organized.

Voice Features

The WebRamp 2000V is designed to be fully complaint with the TollBridge TB200 Gateway, CopperCom Gateway, and the Jetstream CPX-1000 Gateway. These gateways interface to class 5 switches support multiple derived voice channels for telephones, fax machines and PBXs. The WebRamp 2000V includes these voice features:

  • Scaleable from 8 - 16 voice ports
  • Single platform support for voice gateways based on IP or ATM technology
  • Support for phone, PBX, fax and modem equipment
  • PCM (64kbps) and ADPCM (32kbps) support
  • Hardware based echo cancellation
  • 2.3Mbps SDSL Compatible with DSLAM partners such as Copper Mountain
  • Lifeline support for WAN or Power failure
  • Dynamic Bandwidth allocation for voice traffic, leaving unused bandwidth available for data applications
  • Quality of Service and prioritization to deliver Toll Quality Voice
