SMART LINK SIGNS LICENSING AGREEMENT WITH TOLLBRIDGE TECHNOLOGIES
Smart Link Joins TollBridge's Voice of Broadband Alliance to Deliver Voice-over-DSL Solutions to Homes and Small Businesses

WATERTOWN, Mass., April 17, 2000 - Smart Link, a leading provider of Internet access solutions for the home and small office market, and TollBridge Technologies, Inc., the leading developer of IP-based voice-over-broadband solutions for next-generation carriers, today announced that Smart Link has licensed TollBridge's voice-over-broadband technology and has joined TollBridge's Voice of Broadband Alliance to extend Smart Link's family of integrated access devices to deliver high-quality voice. Smart Link will incorporate TollBridge's TollVoiceTM technology into its Simple Network Access Point Products (DSL SNAPPTM) and develop broadband access technologies targeted at home and very small business customers who want an affordable, point-and-click managed, integrated solution for their voice and data over DSL needs.

"Smart Link's proven track record of providing products for the home market, along with its expertise in OEM products for the small-business market, makes it an excellent partner," said Agnes Imregh, vice president of marketing for TollBridge. "Smart Link's strength in the PC market, combined with our TollViewTM technology, will enable us to maximize the opportunities in the VoDSL market."

"By partnering with TollBridge Technology, we can provide unique voice and data solutions that will significantly reduce the complexities of broadband communications for home and small-business customers," said Laura Hanks, Director of Sales and Marketing for Smart Link's convergence products.

The DSL SNAPP series is Smart Link's flagship family of intelligent broadband gateway systems that integrate the company's industry-leading, soft-based technologies into flexible platforms. Smart Link engineered these systems with unparalleled simplicity, carrier service options, and management capabilities to bridge the gap between the SOHO (small office-home office) environment and carrier networks.

About the Voice of Broadband Alliance

The Voice of Broadband Alliance is a leadership initiative to promote interoperability and standardization among broadband equipment vendors. TollBridge is pioneering this effort to ensure that Voice of Broadband Alliance partners are interoperable with its standards-compliant voice gateway and network management products.

TollBridge has spearheaded the alliance program to accelerate large-scale deployments by next-generation carriers: competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs), inter exchange carriers (IXCs), ISPs, multisystem operators (MSOs), and cable operators. Alliance partners include the leading providers of DSL, cable and wireless access equipment, integrated access devices (IADs), integrated communications platforms (ICPs), semiconductor solutions, and next-generation switching and services software platforms. To encourage this interoperability effort, TollBridge has launched three groundbreaking initiatives:

  1. Open source code licensing for CPE (customer premises equipment) design.
  2. An interoperability lab specifically for Voice of Broadband Alliance partners to ensure product interoperability-Products passing all tests receive "Powered by TollBridge" certification and use of the associated logo for display in marketing materials.
  3. Joint standards promotion-TollBridge is committed to an open standards environment for voice-over-broadband equipment providers. TollBridge is investing resources to jointly fund standards promotion and interoperability activities as well as providing partners with promotional space and equipment at industry events.
