PHILIPS SEMICONDUCTORS TEAMS WITH TOLLBRIDGE TECHNOLOGIES TO DELIVER SINGLE CHIP INTEGRATED ACCESS DEVICE FOR VOICE-OVER-DSL
Joins TollBridge's Voice of Broadband Alliance to Promote Industry Interoperability

London luxury hotelsSUNNYVALE, Calif., May 15, 2000 - Philips Semiconductors, an affiliate of Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG), today announced that it has licensed TollBridge Technologies' voice-over-DSL (VoDSL) interface specification for interoperability with TollBridge voice gateway products. Philips Semiconductors is developing single chip integrated access device solutions that will reduce cost and development time for VoDSL customer premise equipment (CPE), and the company has joined TollBridge's Voice of Broadband Alliance to promote interoperability and accelerated deployment of broadband integrated access devices and voice gateway products.

hoteles FunchalPhilips Semiconductors will incorporate VoDSL technology into its planned family of IAD-on-a-Chip solutions that provide broadband voice and data capabilities for integrated access devices (IADs). IADs allow service providers to offer high-speed data and multiple phone lines with carrier-class voice, all on a single broadband connection. The initial IAD-on-a-Chip products, now in development for announcement later this year, will be tailored for customer premise equipment for residential and small business markets.

"Service providers are clamoring for cost-effective VoDSL solutions, and Philips Semiconductors will help accelerate widespread deployment of these services to consumers with its IAD-on-a-Chip products," said Bob Yundt, vice president of business development at TollBridge. "TollBridge looks forward to working closely with Philips Semiconductors, and we welcome them to the growing membership of the Voice of Broadband Alliance."

"Our relationship with TollBridge will allow us to create highly integrated semiconductor solutions that give CPE manufacturers faster time to market and interoperability with the TollBridge voice gateway, " said Ed Rocha, general manager, Integrated Access Devices, Philips Semiconductors. "Philips Semiconductors plans to deliver a single chip with on-board voice and packet processors and supporting software, targeting the VoDSL IAD marketplace."

Alliance partners include the leading providers of DSL, cable, and wireless access equipment; IADs, integrated communications platforms, semiconductor solutions, and next-generation switching and services software platforms. Philips Semiconductors also recognizes the value of related initiatives, such as the TollBridge Interoperability Lab, which can provide certification for qualified equipment vendors.
