TOLLBRIDGE AND SYLANTRO JOIN FORCES TO DELIVER NEW CARRIER CLASS SERVICES FOR VOICE OVER BROADBAND SYSTEMS

Companies Combine Value-added Application Switch and Class 5 Services for Smooth Migration from PSTN to IP-Centric Telephony Services Using Any Broadband Access Technology

Gran hotel EnnisSAN JOSE, Calif., July 5, 2000 - TollBridge Technologies (Santa Clara, Calif.) and Sylantro Systems (Campbell, Calif.) announced today that they will integrate their technologies and will collaborate on sales efforts to deliver a full-featured, carrier-class voice-over-broadband system to next-generation communications carriers. TollBridge will enhance its market-leading broadband-to-PSTN media gateway for integration with Sylantro's Applications Switch and value added Communications Suite products. The TollBridge-Sylantro agreement will generate voice-over-broadband solutions that supply next-generation softswitch capabilities, hosted business telephony (including familiar PSTN support for Class 5 switches), and advanced value-added applications-all over the same managed access network.

The alliance between Sylantro and TollBridge will provide Integrated Communication Providers (ICPs) the flexibility to determine, on a per-company basis, whether to utilize their existing Class 5 switch infrastructure or migrate to a next-generation network capability. This flexibility will enable them to offer advanced services not available with traditional Class 5 switches while at the same time allowing them to maximize existing investments in Class 5 switches to deliver traditional voice services.

"The existing Class 5 circuit switches and new softswitch-based services will continue to co-exist in the network for some time to come," said Agnes Imregh, vice president of marketing, TollBridge Technologies. "With the joint TollBridge-Sylantro solution, the choice of technology can be made based on economic and geographic considerations. With the benefits of broadband independence and common management, the migration path from PSTN to end-to-end IP is assured."

The flexibility of the joint solution is also beneficial to ICPs with multiple broadband properties, such as DSL, cable, and fixed wireless, because they can continue to grow their subscriber base using any broadband access. For providers looking to expand into new geographic areas where initial investment in a Class 5 switch may be prohibitive, the provider can instead use the TollBridge-Sylantro solution to start with the complete platform required for next-generation services.

five star hotel in Goteborg"ICPs now have the capability of enhancing their existing voice services offering with advanced softswitch capabilities, unique provisioning features, unprecedented end-user device control, and a services creation platform provided over their existing broadband network," said Dave Scarborourgh, vice president of strategic alliances for Sylantro Systems. "We feel that combining the TollBridge and Sylantro product offerings is a winning solution for the new generation of service providers."
