POLYCOM, TOLLBRIDGE ANNOUNCE VOICE OVER DSL AGREEMENT
Polycom's Integrated Access Devices and TollBridge's voice gateways will enable small and medium-sized businesses to benefit from VoDSL technology.MILPITAS and SANTA CLARA, Calif., October 31, 2000 - olycom®, Inc. This solution will enhance and drive the deployment of voice over digital subscriber line (VoDSL) technology, giving small and medium-sized businesses access to competitive telecommunications services and rates. Polycom is the preferred customer premise equipment (CPE) partner of TollBridge and under terms of the agreement, Polycom's NetEngine 6000 IADs will fully support the TB200 voice gateway from TollBridge. The two companies plan to jointly market and distribute the solution. This alliance will give service providers the assurance that they can deliver the voice quality and reliability that is required for wide-spread deployment of VoDSL to small and medium-sized businesses. Polycom NetEngine 6000 IAD Technology Polycom's NetEngine IADs are integral to VoDSL applications. By facilitating the convergence of voice and data at the customer's premise, the IAD enables the transmission of packet-based information over the existing copper lines in residences and businesses and onto broadband networks. The NetEngine 6000 family of broadband access equipment is designed specifically for small and medium-sized businesses, as well as the small office/home office (SOHO) and telecommuter markets. TollBridge TB200 Voice Gateway Technology The TollBridge TB200 is a carrier class Local Exchange Gateway that connects to the CLASS 5 Switch using GR-303 over a DS1 or STS-1 interface, and connects to the broadband router networks using a DS3 or OC-3 ATM interface. Circuit-switched voice traffic coming from the Class 5 switch is packetized and sent to the TB50/TB55 Integrated Access Device (IAD) or a Packet Cable-based Multimedia Terminal Adapter (MTA) located at the customer premises. The TB200 appears as a digital loop carrier (DLC) to the Class 5 Switch and transparently delivers all Class 5 services to end users.
