TOLLBRIDGE TECHNOLOGIES AND NORTEL NETWORKS ENABLE CLEAR COMMUNICATIONS AT WESTERN CABLE SHOW
TollBridge and its Strategic Partner's Demonstrate Voice-over-Cable, DSL and Wireless Solutions at National Conference

SANTA CLARA, Calif., November 28, 2000 - TollBridge Technologies, the leading developer of high-quality voice-over-broadband solutions for a new generation of carriers, announced today that in conjunction with its strategic partner Nortel Networks* (NYSE/TSE:NT) it will for the first time provide a free phone bank for broadband voice calls over cable, at this year's Western Cable Show, November 29 - December 1, in Los Angeles, CA., at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Visitors to TollBridge booth #4517 can utilize the TollBridge-supplied bank of telephones to call anywhere in the United States using the TollBridge PacketCable-based IP Telephony Platform that utilizes a GR-303 Class 5 switch interface to connect to the Public Switched Telephone Network. Show attendees will also be able to initiate and receive calls from the TollBridge booth to the Nortel booth and CableNET 2000 Exhibit. The network demonstrated at the show includes the following TollBridge and Nortel products:

  • TB200, a carrier-grade IP-PSTN Gateway allows carriers to deliver toll-quality voice services from a Class 5 switch over a high-speed data infrastructure. The TB200 is fully compatible with existing phones, modems, faxes, key systems and PBXs. Dialtone, billing and all the value-added custom calling features available from the Class 5 switch are transparently delivered by the TollBridge platform. The TB200 allows carriers to deploy today leveraging Class 5 switches and migrate to an end-to-end IP network in the future.
  • TollView Management Suite, including the graphical Element Management System (EMS) for end-to-end configuration, troubleshooting and performance management of up to 100 TB200 systems using HP OpenView on SUN Solaris platforms.
  • Cornerstone Packet Port, a multimedia terminal adapter (MTA) for primary line packetized voice and data. The Packet Port delivers both voice and data over IP via a hybrid-fiber/coax (HFC) network with the reliability and technology experience customers have come to expect from Cornerstone solutions.
  • Cornerstone CMTS, a scalable Cable Modem Termination System headend solution that enables cable operators to provide reliable, high-speed services to their customers.

Voice of Broadband

In addition to the cable demo, TollBridge will be delivering on its promise to provide high-quality voice solutions across the full spectrum of broadband media, DSL and Wireless, with demonstrations that will include such companies as: Ambit, Askey, Com21, Polycom, Adtran, RC Networks, Smartlink, Syndeo and Wireless, Inc.

"Service providers need to leverage the investments they've made in their broadband infrastructure to gain new revenue streams. Vendors that provide integrated, future-proofed solutions that can deliver broadband voice over any media will be well positioned to compete in the emerging IP voice over broadband market," said Patti Reali, senior analyst, Gartner Dataquest, the San Jose-based market research firm. Gartner Dataquest believes that competitive IP voice over cable services have the potential to capture as more than 25 percent of all homes passed by cable broadband networks in North America by 2005, if primary and secondary line services are competitively priced and bundled with video and data offerings.

Athens hotel rooms"Packetized voice over broadband promises to be one of the fastest-growing markets of the new millennium," said Agnes Imregh, vice president of marketing at TollBridge. "This announcement underscores both our commitment and our optimal position to leverage the enormous opportunity represented by all three major market segments."

"The successful partnership between Smart Link and Tollbridge aims to provide residential and home-office customers with a range of robust Voice-over-Cable broadband solutions," said Antonio Visconti, vice president of marketing and business development. "Smart Link's technology simultaneously provides multiple phone lines,

Internet access, and peripheral sharing using plug-and-play adapters and PC-based software. Technologically advanced families that desire these combined services will find our product offering flexible and cost-effective."
