TOLLBRIDGE TECHNOLOGIES DELIVERS FIRST V5.2 GATEWAYS TO SUPPORT GLOBAL BROADBAND ACCESS MEDIA
Access Gateways Bring Voice to Cable, DSL, Wireless and T1 Standards

Santa Clara, Calif. - May 7, 2001 - TollBridge Technologies, a leading vendor of next generation voice solutions for broadband access networks, is now deploying two voice-over Internet Protocol (IP) gateways, the TB300 and TB200, to support global standards across all major access media. The new ETSI V5.2 solution has been successfully tested and deployed using the PacketCableTM Network-based Call Signaling (NCS) specification, the Asynchronous Transfer Module (ATM) Forum LANE implementation and the ADSL Forum Broadband Loop Emulation Service (BLES) for access to the cable, DSL, wireless and T1 markets for telephony services.

The delivery of the V5.2 protocol provides a carrier class solution to the major service providers of South America, Europe and Asia, and further legitimizes TollBridge's role as the deployment leader in developing voice-over-broadband gateways. Until now, leading vendors have offered voice gateway platforms based on the GR-303 standard, which widely used in North America. The rest of the world relies on the V5.2 for interfacing to circuit-switched networks.

"The TollBridge gateway solution enables service providers to offer voice communications and other value-added services over any broadband medium," said Kevin Woods, vice president of product marketing for TollBridge. "The V5.2 protocol has allowed us to aggressively expand into international markets and to add to our installed base of well over 40,000 lines worldwide."

TollBridge has partnerships, trials and agreements in place with major European, South American and Asian carriers including DSL laboratory trials with Singapore Telecom and Korea Telecom, and lab demonstrations with Pacific Century CyberWorks (Hong Kong Telecom). In addition, TollBridge recently announced a partnership with Nortel Networks to help build Germany's first voice over coaxial cable network. The TB300 used in Germany is based on the V5.2 protocol, the CableLabs NCS specification and the Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS).

TollBridge's TB300 V5.2 solution is designed to support NCS specification, which is an enhancement to the industry de facto standard Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP). The NCS architecture is the preferred market entry vehicle by cable operators, as it provides a complete solution to enable the deployment of packet-based IP telephony services.

The TB300 and TB200 also support the BLES standards of the ADSL Forums to permit derivation of legacy local telephony services from packet-based DSL (e.g., frame or cell) by interoperable network and end-user equipment. Further, it enables existing LAN applications to run over ATM transparently for widespread deployment by incorporating the standards of the ATM Forum LANE implementation agreement.
