TOLLBRIDGE TECHNOLOGIES AND PARADYNE CORPORATION FORM CO-MARKETING AND INTEROPERABILITY PARTNERSHIP
Two Companies Partner to Market Toll-Quality Multiline Voice-over-DSL Solutions

Atlanta (SuperComm), June 7, 1999 -TollBridge Technologies and Paradyne Corporation announced today a co-marketing and interoperability partnership for delivering IP-based multiline voice over Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) broadband access. TollBridge has tested its TB200 Local Exchange Gateway and TB50 Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) for interoperability with Paradyne's Hotwire line of DSL Access Multiplexers (DSLAMs) and endpoints. Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will work together to market seamless joint solutions for their voice and data Competitive Local Exchange (CLEC) customers.

EDITORS NOTE: TollBridge is demonstrating its toll-quality voice over DSL solutions at SuperComm this week in booth #3609. Also, visit Paradyne in booth #2031.

"With its broad range of DSL solutions, Paradyne has garnered tremendous market share, which makes them a very attractive partner for us," said Jim Grady, vice president of marketing for TollBridge Technologies. "Because the TollBridge TollVoice architecture operates at the IP layer, it naturally interoperates with all of the many types of DSL supported by the Paradyne product line. Add to this Paradyne's field support force, which is second to none, and we have two partners with great synergy."

The Hotwire DSLAM system platform supports the broadest variety of DSL technologies available with the Hotwire Multiple Virtual Line (MVLTM) system, Multi-rate Symmetric DSL (M/SDSL) and Multi-rate High-speed DSL (M/HDSL) up to E1, and Rate Adaptive DSL (RADSL) at 1Mbps. This flexibility enables CLECs to provide a range of services to large populations of business customers. With the TollBridge solution, CLECs can now add voice services to their portfolio.

"Paradyne is pleased to have concluded this co-marketing and interoperability agreement with TollBridge, and we look forward to bringing TollVoice/Hotwire systems to trial in the near future," said Frank Wiener, vice president and general manager for Paradyne's Hotwire DSL products division. "The two companies together can build seamless end-to-end solutions for our joint CLEC customers, enabling those customers to provide cost-effective, integrated services to most of the seven million small businesses in the United States who buy voice services today."

New Opportunities for Both Voice and Data CLECs
Until now, the costs associated with arbitrage of Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC) dial tone, or running T1 lines from the customer to the wire center to the Class 5 switch, have prevented voice CLECs from entering the small business market. Data CLECs, on the other hand, have been aggressively marketing new broadband access technologies to small businesses, using products from companies like Paradyne. They see delivery of voice as a way to sell more broadband access/transport and thus increase revenue.

Voice CLECs can partner with data CLECs to bypass the ILEC and bring business voice traffic back to a single, centrally located Class 5 switch. TollVoice, TollBridge's innovative Any Service over Packets architecture, allows voice CLECs to reach customers throughout the Local Access and Transport Area (LATA) by using data CLECs' local broadband access networks. Thus, the voice CLECs gain entry to the small business marketplace, which was previously unprofitable for them to serve, and data CLECs are able to sell more broadband transport. The end user benefits from increased competition in the local loop.

"The Paradyne relationship with TollBridge is a smart move, as we believe that voice over IP using existing data networks is the obvious way to go," said Chip Ach, chief architect for HarvardNet in Boston. "We are excited about their collaboration and look forward to offering our customers more advanced services over our Paradyne Hotwire DSL network."
