TOLLBRIDGE TECHNOLOGIES LICENSES TOLLVOICE TECHNOLOGY TO NETOPIA FOR VOICE OVER DSL INTEGRATED ACCESS DEVICES
hotel a MaastrichtNetopia Will Develop IAD Product Family for Small Business

Atlanta (SuperComm), June 7, 1999 - - TollBridge Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of IP-based voice-over-broadband solutions for Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs), and Netopia, Inc., (NASDAQ:NTPA) a market leader in providing Internet infrastructure to small growing businesses, today announced that Netopia has licensed TollBridge's TollVoice technology. Netopia will expand its line of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) data equipment to incorporate TollVoice technology and deliver IAD (Integrated Access Device) solutions that integrate voice and data. Netopia has strong relationships with leading voice and data CLECs and will market the TollVoice-enabled solutions through its existing CLEC, ISP and VAR channels in order to help those channels tap into the booming small-business voice market.

EDITORS NOTE: TollBridge is demonstrating its products at booth #3609 at the SuperComm trade show, being held from June 7-9 in Atlanta, GA.

"Netopia's product focus on the small business market makes them an excellent partner, since these end customers are the most in need of a cost-effective alternative to the expensive analog voice services offered by LECs," said Jim Grady, TollBridge vice president of marketing. "The uniquely extensible, modular architecture of Netopia's Internet equipment products will significantly facilitate the incorporation of TollVoice technology and will allow Netopia to offer its current router customers an upgrade path to VoDSL, in much the same way that it now offers them an upgrade path to more powerful WAN interfaces. Also Netopia's well-established channels among both data and voice CLECs will help speed these solutions to the market."

TollBridge's TollVoice is the first IP-based voice system to deliver the same high voice quality that businesses enjoy today, using conventional telephones. To integrate easily into business environments, TollVoice works with all existing telephones, faxes, modems, PBXes and key systems. TollVoice also transparently supports all value-added voice services on the vast majority of Class 5 voice switches, including call waiting, call forwarding, caller ID, oversubscription, automated provisioning and others.

"Netopia has been very successful in partnering with the leading data and voice CLECs to bring DSL to small and medium-sized businesses," said Michael Trupiano, senior vice president and general manager, Netopia Internet Equipment Division. "By integrating the TollVoice IP voice capability into our product set, we will provide our channels with high quality voice over DSL solutions which will enable them to broaden their market opportunities significantly."

End-to-End DSL Compatibility
The TollBridge/Netopia relationship also assures customers that their solutions are compatible with DSL solutions from Copper Mountain Networks, a leading manufacturer of DSL access concentrators. TollBridge announced last week that TollVoice is interoperable with Copper Mountain's family of CopperEdge Multi-Service DSL concentrators. Netopia was the first Copper Mountain CPE partner, and the first to market with CopperCompatible routers for IDSL and SDSL, as well as a DSU and filtering bridge for SDSL. Today, Netopia offers the broadest range of CopperCompatible CPE on the market. Further, Netopia is the only CPE vendor to integrate its solution with Copper Mountain's CopperEdge DSL Concentrator and CopperView Network Management System. Together, the TollBridge, Copper Mountain and Netopia product families provide an end-to-end solution for voice over DSL.
