MGC COMMUNICATIONS DEPLOYS TOLLBRIDGE TECHNOLOGIES FOR VOICE OVER DSL Las Vegas, NV and Santa Clara, CA, October 4, 1999 - MGC Communications, Inc., (NASDAQ: MGCX) ("MGC" or the "Company"), a leading facilities-based integrated communications service provider, and TollBridge Technologies ("Tollbridge") announced today that MGC is deploying the TollBridge family of IP-based, multiline, voice over DSL ("VoDSL") solutions to deliver its bundled voice and data services to small business customers. Deployment of Tollbridge customer premise equipment ("CPE") began at the customer sites during September. As part of a multi-million dollar agreement, MGC will utilize the TollBridge solution to deliver VoDSL to small business customers throughout Las Vegas, Atlanta, Chicago, southern Florida, and selected areas of southern California. This relationship is the culmination of extensive testing of TollBridge solutions by MGC. MGC is deploying the TB200 Local Exchange Gateway to connect with Class 5 digital telephony switches in its existing Central Office territories, seeking to deliver toll-quality voice and integrated data services to customers who previously contracted for voice and data services separately. The TollBridge solution is expected to provide complete support for value-added telephony services while enabling MGC to deliver these services at a lower cost. "From a technical standpoint, we chose the TollBridge solution because we believe it integrates smoothly with our existing and future network elements while providing efficient end-to-end IP connectivity," said Nield J. Montgomery, president and chief executive officer of MGC. "From a business perspective, the TollBridge solution enables our small business customers to enjoy all the advantages of high-speed DSL connectivity for both voice and data." MGC is using the TollBridge TB50 CPE as part of the solution and will manage the end-to-end solution from centralized Network Operating Centers using the TollView EMS, a graphical Element Management System. "We believe that TollBridge has met its commitment to deliver a full-featured, carrier-class, toll-quality, VoDSL solution to our carrier customers," said Gary Tauss, president and chief executive officer of TollBridge Technologies. "Our strategy to provide standards-based, cost-effective, and interoperable solutions is expected to enable MGC and other carriers to tap into the vast market potential of DSL-based voice and data services, while offering them a migration path for the future." Because the TollBridge solution is IP packet-based, MGC expects to realize dramatic network efficiencies as it deploys its VoDSL offerings. Unlike solutions based on H.323, the TollBridge TollVoiceTM architecture packs samples from multiple voice calls into a single IP packet (IP Voice Trunking) and transmits voice and end-user data traffic over the broadband DSL link. The TollBridge solution has been designed to prioritize voice over data to ensure the bandwidth is available for toll quality. In addition, TollBridge solutions have been built and tested for compatibility with related IP equipment and transport technologies, allowing competitive local exchange carriers ("CLECs") to choose among alternative broadband access methods for service delivery based on cost or other factors. About TollBridge Technologies Founded in March 1998 and located in Sunnyvale, Calif., TollBridge Technologies is the leading developer of IP-based multiline voice solutions targeted at Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs). The company's solutions change the economics of delivering voice services to small-business customers by allowing voice CLECs that own Class 5 switches to use broadband access technologies, such as DSL, to bypass the incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) and deliver toll-quality voice and integrated data services.
