MGC COMMUNICATIONS DEPLOYS TOLLBRIDGE TECHNOLOGIES FOR VOICE OVER DSL
Las Vegas, NV and Santa Clara, CA, October 4, 1999 - MGC Communications, Inc., (NASDAQ: MGCX) ("MGC" or the "Company"), a leading facilities-based integrated communications service provider, and TollBridge Technologies ("Tollbridge") announced today that MGC is deploying the TollBridge family of IP-based, multiline, voice over DSL ("VoDSL") solutions to deliver its bundled voice and data services to small business customers. Deployment of Tollbridge customer premise equipment ("CPE") began at the customer sites during September. As part of a multi-million dollar agreement, MGC will utilize the TollBridge solution to deliver VoDSL to small business customers throughout Las Vegas, Atlanta, Chicago, southern Florida, and selected areas of southern California. This relationship is the culmination of extensive testing of TollBridge solutions by MGC. MGC is deploying the TB200 Local Exchange Gateway to connect with Class 5 digital telephony switches in its existing Central Office territories, seeking to deliver toll-quality voice and integrated data services to customers who previously contracted for voice and data services separately. The TollBridge solution is expected to provide complete support for value-added telephony services while enabling MGC to deliver these services at a lower cost. MGC is using the TollBridge TB50 CPE as part of the solution and will manage the end-to-end solution from centralized Network Operating Centers using the TollView EMS, a graphical Element Management System. Unlike solutions based on H.323, the TollBridge TollVoiceTM architecture packs samples from multiple voice calls into a single IP packet (IP Voice Trunking) and transmits voice and end-user data traffic over the broadband DSL link. The TollBridge solution has been designed to prioritize voice over data to ensure the bandwidth is available for toll quality. In addition, TollBridge solutions have been built and tested for compatibility with related IP equipment and transport technologies, allowing competitive local exchange carriers ("CLECs") to choose among alternative broadband access methods for service delivery based on cost or other factors.
