Hiking Switzerland, From Gstaad to Gruyeres
July 20 - 28, 2001 for the
cheap hotels in Warsaw ALL-INCLUSIVE PRICE of $2490
A hikers dream vacation hiking through the majestic mountain landscape of the Swiss Alps! More impressive than any photograph could convey the jagged peaks of the mountains surround you in a breathtaking panorama. Hike through green valleys with rushing rivers, through picturesque alpine villages of traditional broad-roofed chalets, ornamented with profusely carved balconies & geraniums flowing from the window boxes. Pause to listen to the gentle sound of cowbells as the cattle graze in the lush alpine pastures. Return from a day in the refreshing alpine air to hearty, delicious meals & good companionship!

Your expectations will rise as you drive along lovely Lake Geneva (Lake Leman), heading for the Pays-dEnhaut (high country), your gateway to the Vaud & Bernese Alps. Your base in Rougemont, a mountain retreat set at 3200 ft., is only 8 km from Gstaad, known the world over as a jet-set resort. Your guide is the popular leader of our Scottish hikes, a teacher of mountaineering & mountain rescue. He & his experienced French assistant will lead you on your choice of moderate or challenging hikes each day, & will provide information on the flora, fauna, history & geography of the region. The moderate level hikers will follow lower trails through the mountains & valleys with spectacular views in every direction! Those of you who opt for the most challenging hikes will follow trails with ascents that range from 2,000 ft. to a strenuous but rewarding 4,200 ft. ascent to the summit of Videmanette, the mountain that overlooks the town of Rougemont. This particularly multicultural area of Switzerland includes hikes through neighboring German & French speaking villages. Saanen is a village of traditional Bernese Oberlander chalets, some from the 16th c., & is known for its Vacherin cheese. In the tiny village of LEtivaz you will have a chance to see traditional methods of cheese making & have a taste. Chateaux DOex (pop. 3110) acts as the capital of the Enhaut region & several hikes will begin or end there. From LauenenKeila Vald Cuarto de hotel barato, you will hike to a mountain lake, Lauenensee, to enjoy the moorlands, waterfalls & alpine flowers; the more challenging hike will take you farther up the mountain for lunch in a mountain hut. For both groups, the path to Gsteig via the Col du Pillon offers superb views of the Tsanfleuron glacier. The options for your free day are fantastic! Go to Gstaad for window-shopping & celebrity spotting, or to Chateau DOex to visit the Enhaut Traditional Museum, which illustrates the rich historical past of the region, from the 12th 19th centuries. Gruyeres offers a chateau, museum, & cheese factory. Go to Interlaken via the Crystal Observation Train or take the train to Montreux, to see the site of the Jazz Festival, in this most popular of resorts on Lake Geneva. Byron, who was imprisoned in a chateau here, called it "beautiful as a dream". Bring your camera! Cherish the memory of your adventure in Switzerland, & dream of returning to this unforgettably beautiful area of Europe.
